Guinness World Records’ Fastest Half Marathon by a Linked Team at the Calgary Marathon’s 60th-Anniversary!
To commemorate the Calgary Marathon’s 60th year anniversary, MitoCanada’s running ambassadors set their 14th GWR (running), led by MitoCanada’s co-founder and superstar Blaine Penny. The 11 runner, ran the Fastest Half Marathon by a Linked Team in 1 hour 19 minutes 47 seconds on May 26, 2024. The team also helped MitoCanada become the #1 charity with the largest number of active fundraisers (253), to help raise an impressive $35,521.53 in support of those living with mitochondria disease.
The Calgary marathon plays an important role in MitoCanada’s origin story. The first organized event that brought a large group of MitoCanada supporters together, the Calgary Marathon has welcomed our running ambassadors and set the stage for MitoCanada in setting 14 GWR running attempts and achievements. MitoCanada has used GWRs to capture the public’s attention, raise awareness, and put mitochondrial disease on the map. This year was no exception! We are so grateful to this awesome team and to everyone who supported them.
