MitoInsights is MitoCanada’s new research knowledge hub, created to make complex mitochondrial science clear, engaging, and meaningful for everyone.

About MitoInsights

We know that many members of our community are eager to understand the science that drives progress in mitochondrial medicine, but research articles can be quite technical. Through MitoInsights, we translate peer-reviewed studies into plain-language summaries that highlight what was studied, what was discovered, and why it matters to Canadians living with mitochondrial disease.

Our goal is simple: to nurture curiosity, build understanding, and connect the dots between discovery and daily life; empowering patients, families, and supporters to follow the science shaping their future.

Each MitoInsights article:

  • Summarizes a recent scientific publication in easy-to-understand language

  • Explains key findings, methods, and relevance to mitochondrial disease

  • Defines complex terms like mitochondrial function, gene editing, or calcium handling

  • Ends with a section called “Why this matters to the mito community”, connecting research insights to real-world impact

Every summary is written and reviewed in collaboration with our scientific and patient-partner networks to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
