The 2022 MitoSpin is going to be the best virtual spin fundraising experience you’ve ever been involved in. To make it better than ever, we’ve added the excitement and community that comes with Zwift for those who want to interact with others in a virtual world while supporting MitoCanada.

We are all working together to help create a world where all lives are powered by healthy mitochondria. Thank you for joining us. Please choose from the following options:

  • 1-hour routes: We have five one-hour rides. Each one begins at the top of the hour and ranges in distance from 11.6 km to 24 km.  You can choose to join one or all of these rides that allow you to pedal at your own pace.
  • Epic 173 km PRL Full route. This is the most sought-after Zwift badge and is expected to take at least 5 hours to complete. This route is for experienced riders only.

How to join the MitoSpin 1-hour Zwift Route options:

  • you must have a Smart bike or trainer and a Zwift account.  Please go to Zwift.com for details on how to sign up (there are free trials available)
  • to join one of the rides, simply click on the link that is associated with that route at the appropriate time
  • clicking on the link will take you to the event page where you need to click the “+” sign and it will register you for the ride
  • if you don’t have the Zwift companion app, clicking on the link will take you to the Zwift log in page. Once logged in, you’ll be taken to the “events” page.  Once you reach that page, click on the “+” to sign up

A few points to keep in mind:

  • each ride is 1 hour
  • you can join the ride up to 30 minutes late. After that, Zwift will not allow you to join.
  • there is a leader for each ride but you can ride at your own pace and do not need to worry about keeping pace with the rest of the group
  • each ride has been selected specifically for MitoSpin and are closed worlds. This means the only people you will see on the route are fellow MitoSpin participants. Feels free to wave at and encourage each other.

PRL Full MitoSpin Route   |  Instructions for joining

This route is presented in a closed world for a banded group. Join us via your Zwift Companion App to share stories or encourage the group through the chat feature. This ride begins at 8 am MST / 10 am EST. You can view the ride here. It is 173 kms with 2290 elevation.

To participate in this ride, please read and note the instructions and deadlines below carefully:

  • Ensure the Zwift Companion App is loaded on your iPad or iPhone
  • Email Catherine.Mulvale@MitoCanada.org by or before noon on Fri. Feb. 25th so that she can forward your email on to Ken who must invite you to join the ride. If we do not have your email by that time, you will not receive the invitation in time and you will not be able to participate in this incredible experience.
  • Follow Ken Crockett T1D on Zwift. Ken will be spotlighted as the leader for this ride
  • Be at the meet up by or before 8 am MST / 10 am EST on Sat. Feb. 26

Notes to ensure a successful ride:

  • Everyone stays together in this virtual, no-drop ride regardless of power output
  • You’ll be able to draft and move around in the group without fear of being dropped unless you stop pedaling.
  • We will take some group breaks which will be communicated through the ride chat
  • This is a huge ride. It is imperative to complete a ride of this magnitude to ensure that you both drink and eat regularly on the ride.
  • Having a fan, towels and a change – or two – of your Ride Kit will ensure the best experience.
