Headshot of Kate Murray

Kate Murray, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Kate Murray is the CEO of MitoCanada and a passionate champion for meaningful patient and community engagement. She believes that people with lived experience bring valuable insights and perspectives to research, healthcare and the development of programs and solutions intended to serve them,  and that better outcomes are possible when their voices are included from the beginning.

Kate’s path to this work is deeply personal. As a parent and caregiver to two children living with chronic illnesses, she has navigated two distinct and complex healthcare journeys. Those experiences shaped her understanding of the challenges families face within the health system and ultimately led her to leave the for-profit sector and dedicate her career to improving the experiences and outcomes of patients and families.

Over the past two decades, Kate has built extensive experience across patient advocacy, community engagement and health-focused nonprofit leadership. She founded a children’s charity, co-founded a consultancy firm, and held senior leadership roles with the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation before joining MitoCanada.

Today, much of Kate’s work sits at the intersection of community, healthcare and research. She contributes to numerous committees at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), bringing patient and family perspectives into conversations about care, research and system improvement. Through MitoCanada and her broader collaborations, she also works with researchers, clinicians, research networks and industry partners to create stronger opportunities for patient communities to participate meaningfully in research and decision-making.

Outside of work, Kate finds balance in nature, be it on a beach walk, trail run or kayak adventure.
