About the MITO2026 conference

Mitochondria are at the centre of some of today’s most exciting and emerging areas of health research. From mitochondrial rare disease to metabolic health, neurodegenerative disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, cancer, and mitochondrial transplantation, the MITO2026 National Conference will explore how mitochondrial science is shaping the future of medicine.

The conference will feature keynote lectures, research presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration across academia, healthcare, industry, and the patient community.

Together, we’ll explore new discoveries, emerging therapies, lived-experience insights, and opportunities to advance mitochondrial medicine in Canada and beyond.

Who should attend?

This conference is designed for anyone with an interest in mitochondrial health, research, medicine, innovation, and lived experience, including:

  • Individuals and families affected by mitochondrial disease
  • Caregivers and advocates
  • Researchers and trainees
  • Clinicians and allied health professionals
  • Biotechnology, pharmacology, diagnostics, and therapeutics partners
  • Community organizations and patient groups
  • Funders, policymakers, and health system partners

Whether you are joining as a patient, caregiver, clinician, researcher, trainee, or partner, your voice and perspective are an important!

Help shape the patient and family sessions

We want the patient and family sessions at MITO 2026 to reflect what matters most to the mitoCommunity.

As we begin planning, we invite individuals living with mitochondrial disease, families, caregivers, and community members to share the topics they would most like to learn about at the conference.

Are there questions you wish you could ask a clinician or researcher? Topics you would like explained in plain language? Areas of care, daily life, research, treatment, or support that you want to better understand?

Your input will help us develop sessions that are practical, meaningful, and grounded in the real experiences of people and families affected by mitochondrial disease.
