Apr\u00e8s une grossesse \u00e0 terme et un accouchement normal, ils l&rsquo;ont ramen\u00e9 \u00e0 la maison pour qu&rsquo;il rejoigne son grand fr\u00e8re, Nolan. Mais au fur et \u00e0 mesure que Tanner grandissait, ils ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 remarquer qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;atteignait pas les \u00e9tapes de son d\u00e9veloppement. Il \u00e9tait plus lent \u00e0 marcher et \u00e0 parler et pr\u00e9sentait de l\u00e9g\u00e8res anomalies oculaires. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comme beaucoup de parents, Leeanne et Patrick ont cherch\u00e9 des r\u00e9ponses \u00e0 travers d&rsquo;innombrables visites m\u00e9dicales. Apr\u00e8s une chute qui a envoy\u00e9 Tanner aux urgences, une IRM a \u00e9t\u00e9 effectu\u00e9e et ils ont re\u00e7u un diagnostic d\u00e9vastateur : Le syndrome de Leigh, une maladie mitochondriale rare. \u00ab\u00a0Nous n&rsquo;en avions jamais entendu parler\u00a0\u00bb, raconte Leeanne. \u00ab\u00a0Lorsque nous avons cherch\u00e9 sur Google, nous avons lu que Tanner pouvait avoir entre deux mois et cinq ans pour vivre pleinement. C&rsquo;\u00e9tait tr\u00e8s difficile \u00e0 lire &#8211; et impossible \u00e0 accepter\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u00e9termin\u00e9 \u00e0 en savoir plus, Patrick a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 faire des recherches et est tomb\u00e9 sur le Dr Aneal Khan \u00e0 Calgary, qui a accept\u00e9 de voir Tanner. La famille a quitt\u00e9 son domicile de Saskatoon pour se rendre \u00e0 Calgary. L\u00e0, apr\u00e8s des tests suppl\u00e9mentaires, ils ont appris que Tanner \u00e9tait atteint d&rsquo;une d\u00e9ficience du complexe 1 avec sympt\u00f4mes de Leigh, caus\u00e9e par son g\u00e8ne MT-ND6. Nous sommes rentr\u00e9s de Calgary en nous sentant un peu moins lourds, avec plus d&rsquo;informations sur Tanner, mais en nous demandant encore comment nous allions vivre cette \u00ab\u00a0nouvelle normalit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb, dit Leeanne. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C&rsquo;est le Dr Khan qui leur a sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 d&rsquo;entrer en contact avec MitoCanada et de participer \u00e0 une conf\u00e9rence \u00e0 venir. \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0 que j&rsquo;ai trouv\u00e9 ma tribu \u00ab\u00a0, raconte Leeanne. \u00ab\u00a0Un groupe de personnes partageant les m\u00eames id\u00e9es, la m\u00eame confusion, le m\u00eame espoir et les m\u00eames interrogations, qui comprenaient ce que nous vivions et qui pouvaient aider notre famille \u00e0 naviguer dans ces eaux troubles appel\u00e9es mito. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 MitoCanada, les Wilson ont d\u00e9couvert qu&rsquo;ils n&rsquo;\u00e9taient pas seuls. \u00ab\u00a0Ce groupe nous a aid\u00e9s \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser que nous n&rsquo;\u00e9tions pas isol\u00e9s \u00ab\u00a0, dit Leeanne. \u00ab\u00a0Parfois, le soutien a pris la forme d&rsquo;une aide physique pour Tanner ou simplement d&rsquo;une \u00e9paule compatissante sur laquelle pleurer. Nous \u00e9tions entour\u00e9s d&rsquo;autres parents qui esp\u00e9raient, souhaitaient et priaient les uns pour les autres et pour leur propre enfant. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aujourd&rsquo;hui, Tanner a 12 ans et continue d&rsquo;\u00e9tonner sa famille par sa force et son esprit. \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est un guerrier fort, un jeune homme d\u00e9termin\u00e9 qui, malgr\u00e9 les d\u00e9fis de la mitose, aborde la vie avec une r\u00e9silience remarquable\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9clare Leeanne. \u00ab\u00a0Son esprit brille \u00e0 travers ses batailles quotidiennes, nous enseignant des le\u00e7ons inestimables sur le courage, la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance et le vrai sens de la vie.\u00a0\u00bb <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">D\u00e9sireux de sensibiliser le public, les Wilson ont organis\u00e9 leur premi\u00e8re Mito Glow Walk \u00e0 Saskatoon pendant la Semaine mondiale de la maladie mitochondriale. Des amis, des membres de la famille et des membres de la communaut\u00e9, v\u00eatus de v\u00eatements verts et lumineux, se sont rassembl\u00e9s pour marcher en faveur de Tanner et de tous les guerriers mito qui ont lutt\u00e9 ou continuent de lutter contre cette maladie. Les Wilson pr\u00e9voient d&rsquo;en faire une tradition annuelle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leeanne affirme que le soutien et les ressources fournis par MitoCanada ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;une valeur inestimable. \u00ab\u00a0MitoCanada poursuit sa mission de sensibilisation \u00e0 une maladie dont la plupart des gens n&rsquo;ont jamais entendu parler\u00a0\u00bb, dit-elle. \u00ab\u00a0Nous sommes tr\u00e8s reconnaissants \u00e0 cette communaut\u00e9 qui nous inspire et nous soutient. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leeanne, Tanner et toute la famille Wilson nous inspirent par leur force, leur amour et leur d\u00e9termination.
