Evan’s Story Inspired Ours

In 2009, a group of parents came together to form MitoCanada. Desperate to understand their loved one’s diagnosis of mitochondrial disease, their goal was to help others facing a similar fate. Blaine and Sarah Penny’s son, Evan, was diagnosed with suspected mitochondrial disease when, following a routine appendectomy, he slipped into a coma, damaging his brain. This view is the Penny’s inspiring story.

MitoCanada Presents the First Canadian Conference on Mitochondrial Disease

On September 29-30, 2017, MitoCanada will present Canada’s first conference dedicated to mitochondrial disease. This interactive, inclusive and participatory multi-stakeholder meeting brings together researchers, patients, family members and clinicians to share knowledge, prioritize and plan a national research agenda for mitochondrial disease as well as showcase current cutting- edge Canadian research in mitochondrial diseases.
